Stunning Transformation of PGA Catalunya Resort Hotel

The multiple award-winning PGA Catalunya Resort has announced the opening of an eye-catching five-star hotel to complement its internationally renowned facilities on the Costa Brava. Well, actually a re-opening, as the new Hotel Camiral was formerly the Meliá Vichy Catalán and has been transformed into a modern luxury establishment after a €33 million refurbishment.

The 149-room hotel was re-designed to provide a combination of contemporary design, striking interiors, generous space and comfort, while also adding new dining options to the resort. These include the new a la carte 1477 Restaurant, a lounge bistro and a poolside bar – all specialising in produce from the area and taking inspiration from the local gourmet scene.

In addition, the newly revamped hotel offers an extensive programme of experiences for visitors, ranging from local cultural activities to outdoor pursuits, “without worrying about any arrangements”. Every member of the family is catered for, with activities including cultural tours of nearby Girona or Barcelona, gin and tonic tastings, orienteering and fishing – and cooking your catch on site.

PGA Catalunya has been ranked among the world’s top 100 golf courses by Golf World and was voted 2015 Golf Resort of the Year for Europe by the IAGTO.

In addition to two championship layouts, The Stadium Course and Tour Course, PGA Catalunya Resort is recognised as an international centre of excellence for training and coaching. It is home to Europe’s largest chipping and putting green, the Sergio Garcia Junior Golf Academy and the Dave Pelz Spanish Golf School.

Announcing the hotel re-inauguration (in June), PGA Catalunya Resort CEO David Plana said, “The hotel is the first element of our three-year, €53 million development plan, which will also see a new vineyard, sports facilities, an equestrian centre and a man-made recreational lake added to the resort – all of which underline our continued commitment to ensuring PGA Catalunya Resort maintains its status as a leading global golf destination.”

The resort is less than an hour from Barcelona metropolis, 20 minutes from the superb Costa Brava beaches and just 15 minutes from the historic town of Girona.

In the midst of this holiday haven, Hotel Camiral is the perfect location for golfers, sports enthusiasts, culture aficionados, foodies and their families. Excellent golf and holiday packages are available from GolfinSpain.
