Pablo Martín

Born: 20 April 1986, Málaga

Turned pro: 2007

Considered one of the most naturally gifted of Spain’s new generation of stars, Pablo Martín became the first amateur to win a European Tour event, the 2007 Estoril Open de Portugal. Four years earlier, as a 17-year-old schoolboy competing in the Canarias Open de España, he had become the first amateur to lead a European Tour event after 54 holes, eventually finishing 22nd. During an exceptional amateur career, he equalled Mark Mouland’s record as the youngest winner of the British Boys Championship (2001), and while at Oklahoma State University won the Big 12 Championship Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006 and both the Jack Nicklaus and Fred Haskins awards, presented annually to the nation’s best college golfer. He finished tied 30th on his professional debut in the 2007 US Open at Oakmont.
