Santiago Luna
A four-times Spanish national professionals champion
(including 2000), Santiago Luna had to wait until his 11th full
season on the European Tour before collecting his first title -
the 1995 Madeira Island Open. The win enabled him to finish the
season in 37th place, but - although he improved on that with a
31st place money list finish in 1998 - he is still seeking his second
main tour win. He gained three third-place finishes in 1999 to end
the year 45th. Other achievements include winning the prestigious
Hassan II Trophy in Morocco following the official 1998 season,
and that same year beating Tiger Woods 71-72 in the Dunhill Cup.
In 2000, he finished a comfortable 79th on the order of merit, but
things were not so easy on the 2001 tour (though he continued to
produce winning form on the Spanish national circuit) and
he had to return to the Qualifying School to retain his card.
