About the golf course

This course was originally opened as a 9 hole course designed by Dave Thomas later converted into an 18 hole course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus.
Without doubt this is an ideal resort or society golf course with an emphasis based on positioning the ball in the correct part of the fairway from the tee and then below the flags on the undulating greens.
Some of the earlier holes can ‘lull’ you into a false sense of security but when you reach holes 13,14 and 15 all of which wrap themselves around a man made lake, you are quickly brought to your senses. In particular the 15th hole will test your patience as the small landing ‘areas’ from the tees are well guarded by sand bunkers

As older golfers, we enjoy playing at Mar Menor. It's easy walking and although there are some long walks between some greens to the next tee, it doesn't seem too arduous.

Slow greens and a well played course. One of the slower rounds also.

I really enjoyed this course. It’s in good condition. Interesting layout and some good challenging holes. Enough water and sand to punish lapses on concentration. Will play Mar Menor again.

I have played Mar Menor 6 times now, the course is decent especially when you consider the amount of players each day and that most are high handicappers who don't repair pitch marks or rake bunkers. The greenkeepers do a decent job considering the time they have each day to keep on top of maintenance. Challenging enough without beating you up, keep away from the water and you shouldn't really lose any balls. Greens are receptive and true. For the money, especially if you can get 18 holes in the twilight it's worth a visit.
