Very enjoyable golf course, well maintained and in good condition. A few blind holes and rather difficult if off line but I would recommend playing El Chaparral and I will definitely return.

We teed on time but the pace of play in front was very slow only managed 15 holes before it got dark and that took us nearly 5 hours , the greens were not brilliant as pitch marks everywhere and the grass was roughed up like someone had worn rugby boots

Yet another slow course 5 hours not helped by not being able to drive on some fairways meaning the group in front back and forth to their buggies to change clubs etc then telling us to slow down when we were playing our tee shots, and getting ready to play our approach shots to the green before they’d even reached the green. Another poor service at the clubhouse meant we walked out without being served having sat for at least 15 minutes only to have the waiter ignore us and serve a couple who literally just walked in. Shame could have been good but alas won’t be back.

Decided to play white tees on 16th as view was recommended. After 3 of 4 drives, we were angrily told by a Marshall that the white tees were only for card carrying professionals despite never having been told that. Being a single figure handicapper and the course being short, this was unacceptable. Managed to get a birdie so maybe I need to join the tour!

Chaparral is in a lovely location and the clubhouse is one of the best around. Unfortunately the fairways were not at their best and woolly bordering on first cut length. It’s a course that needs prior knowledge of the holes to get the best out of it. However it has a lovely collection of par threes and very stringent from the white tees. To sum up, it’s a club that very strong in the peripheries such as the welcome which is typified by the gift tote bag they presented on arrival and the clubhouse with a very good golf range. It’s wonderfully cosy and appealing inside the clubhouse. Fairways need to be improved to match up with the better courses in the area. However it can never be classed as dull with good course management required.

The restaurant / veranda is a great place to eat and hang out before or after the round. I also love the course - I think it's possible to post a good score on, but I've now played it several times. Takes a bit of getting used to - some narrow holes and decisions to be made about clubbing off the tee.

A challenging but well preserved course that we definitely will return to. The driving range has good capacity and ball tracking which gives perfect conditions for a good warm-up prior to tee off. The length of the course suits bogey golfers well and all greens are reachable to leave two puts for par.

We booked Twilight at 15:00 but started at 15:30 - there are few buggies - to put it straight - you wait until someone finishes to take over the buggy; tee 17 is a par 4 dramatically going downhill with a dogleg to the left + tee 18 is a par 3 to be played 160m across a valley toward a narrow green - thus a queue of player assemble themselves at tee 17 # a remarkable obstruction made by the architect and quite unusual .. the rest: narrow, demanding holes witch can cost lots of balls and strokes - some nice views - but no chance of playing our handicap at all # the prices at clubhouse may be assumed also demanding

First time playing here and probably my last. The course is built on hilly terrain which resulted in many holes seeming to me to be simply unfair. Severe penalties for being off line and trees encroaching on fairways. The course may be better for those who have played it often but I dont think I'll be going back to find out.

We played the course twice within a week. First impressions were that the overall condition was good but the greens looked scruffy, with evidence of disease and bare patches. Notwithstanding that greens putted well. On returning for our second round, there had been some rain in the preceding days and the look of the greens was much improved. The greens putted well and were a decent speed. We ate in the clubhouse on both occasions and the food and service were excellent both times. It remains one of my favourite courses on Costa Del Sol

What a beautiful course!.... just played here on 23rd November, after playing Cala Nova (fine, but rough & ready) & Cabopino (again beautiful, but slow-going & often confusing layout).... this course was not as difficult as we were led to believe, with lush, wide fairways & some cracking 150m+ par 3's...we arrived half an hour early at 1 PM, but were allowed by the very friendly staff to play virtually straight away, with no queuing & no-one up our backsides.... OK, some of the greens were hardly billiard tables, but isn't adaptability a key factor in golf?...a lovely course, which will become a regular venue for us.

Have played this course every year for the last 6 years and its our favourite of around 13 courses we have played. Never below 8/10 and when the greens are at their best definitely 10/10. The 11th hole is like a toboggan run and if you walk off with a par then you will carry the memory for a long time!

Rating this course in the moment would be unfair. The course with its surrounding is one of the best and unique on Costa del sol. But,.....something happened to the course between February and October. The fairways and greens are in really bad condition. It looks that they are working on it so give them a time (we played-in rated order-Alcaidesa links, Marbella G&CC, Alhaurin).

I've played this course a few times now and it blows the likes of La Cala, Santana, etc away. Those courses are excellent but this is unique. Where would you find a pine forest on the banks of the southern Mediterranean? Search me but it's there and the course takes you on a journey through it. The first time I played (2 years ago) the greens were a bit ropey but the last time (May 2011) they were not from this planet. It was like putting on crushed velvet. I doubt there are better greens anywhere on this Earth. The course is a challenge even off the yellows but some of the holes are jaw dropping, one in particular, the 8th I think, is an elevated teebox and a dog leg right with the whole fairway lined by huge pine trees. It's like a white knuckle ride at a them park when you're teeing off. Mesmerising. Club house is classy and welcoming as is the pro shop. Doubt there are better practice facilities elsewhere on the course. Practice greens are of the same quality as those on course. Well done El Chaparral. I have a holiday home nearby and whilst there are closer clubs to me (Torrequebrada) El Chap has a place in my heart. I'd like to take up there 'part year' membership scheme just to be a part of it when I'm over there.

Just go there I played it in april this year. THe starter said as we went along; be carefull chaps, it's a championship course. He was right about that. I lost count og balls swallowed but still it was a true pleasure playing the round. Ranked in top 3 in my portefolio. A must play course

Nice combination of 6 x Par 5, ^ x Par 4 and 6 X Par 3. Don't be fooled by thinking it's easy because of par 3s. Plenty of variety to challenge the golfer.

Superb course, tight driving, ball eating rough and hard-lightning fast greens. I would not recommend this course to mid-high handicappers as most holes are unforgiving, but to the single figure player this is one of the best i have played (and most spectacular). Rivals La Cala in looks and difficulty - rewards the brave but punishes the foolish. Most of the greens are two-tiered and very easy on the eye but thats where the pleasantries end..they roll true but are like glass, so approach with caution. Will definately play again as course knowledge is a huge benefit and will make it all the more enjoyable.

Very difficult course off white tees if you're not a very good golfer (i.e. 8 or less) stick to the yellow tees otherwise you'll ruin your round & enjoyment. A lot of tight blind shots where course knowledge is a must. Interesting layout and course itself in good condition. Would probably have to play again, and this time off yellow tees! to appreciate it more!

Course just recently re-opened. Fairways were a little bit hairy - but this was required to thicken the grass. Layout is really interesting. Some hole look spanish, some look scandinavian - amongst the pine trees. The greens were simply the best we have played in four years golf in Spain. A the current prices, I would ge there quickly before everyone finds this gem of a course. PS - you will need a buggy. The staff were absolutely brilliant. Made us feel really welcome. Only minor criticism is that the 17th hole is a wee bit 'theme-park' on design.
