Alejandro Cañizares
Born: 9 January 1983, Madrid
Turned pro: 2006
One of two golf pro sons of veteran José María, Alejandro Cañizares launched his own European Tour career in superb style, winning the 2006 Imperial Collection Russian Open on just his third start as an affiliate member – beating the record of Sergio García and Graeme McDowell (both winning on their fourth starts as affiliates). This meant he and his father also became only the third father-son combination to win on the European Tour, following fellow Spaniards Antonio and Ignacio Garrido and Americans Craig and Kevin Stadler. During a celebrated amateur career at Arizona State University he was NCAA champion in 2003, earned All American honours four times and was involved in three winning Palmer Cup teams.
